National School Library Day

It is National School Library Day, part of International School Library Month and Canadian Library Month. It is also the day for the annual DEAR Challenge: Drop Everything and Read.

Explore this site online, or visit us in person to check out the space, to find out more about why school libraries are so vital.

Drop Everything and Read

DEAR2014The annual DEAR Challenge is coming up: Monday, October 27, 2014.  The BCTLA and the BCTF challenge all British Columbians to Drop Everything and Read for 20 Minutes. Most of Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary already does this every day, so this should not be a problem!

The DEAR Challenge is just one aspect of National School Library Day, Canadian Library Month and International School Library Month.

Canadian Library Month

In addition to the fact that October is ISLM (International School Library Month), October is also Canadian Library Month! ¬†As Canadians we enjoy and benefit from some of the best libraries in the world. ¬†Canadian Library Month is a chance to celebrate all of our libraries, including Public Libraries, School Libraries and more. Go to the Canadian Libary Association’s CLM page to find out more!

October is ISLM: International School Library Month!

October is International School Library Month.  All over the world, people are recognizing and celebrating the powerful role that school libraries play in education. Come on in to the School Library at LTS, and continue to check back online, for more on our local celebration of International School Library Month!

Christmas Reading Rewards!

Reading is its own reward. But from time to time we like to give a little something more to those students who demonstrate a love of reading to the rest of the class during SSR. Teachers select students for Reading Rewards tickets, which earn them trips to the school library during class for warm beverages, some tasty treats, and some bonus silent reading in a warm, comfortable and festive atmosphere!

Thanks! Thanks to our volunteers and other members of the Library Team

IMG_0107[1]Thanks to our volunteers and other members of the Library Team.  You serve the staff and students of the school in a vital way.  We appreciate it very much!

On Wednesday the library shut down for lunch so the volunteers could attend the Volunteer Lunch & Christmas Party Extravaganza! We had festive gathering with a ton of tasty treats (Thanks to everyone who brought some, especially those who baked them themselves!)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone on the Library Team.

Seeing in Technicolour

The first of in what we hope is a series of free lunch time concerts on the new school library stage went today and it was a big success! ¬†Thanks to “Seeing in Technicolour,” a band of Lord Tweedsmuir senior students, who put on a great show.

A small but enthusiastic crowd of students was on hand to enjoy the music. We hope that word can spread that we can pack in even more people for our next show.

If you are a performer, either in a band or a solo act, we would love to give you the chance to perform on our stage in a future event!

See Mr. Sexton or Mr. Swaddling for more information.IMG_0042

DEAR Challenge

DEAR: Drop Everything and Read. ¬†The BCTLA and BCTF challenge everyone around the province of British Columbia to “Drop Everything and Read” on Monday, October 28.

At Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School we students and teachers read every day during SSR. On the 28th we are challenging everyone in the building, including administrators, clerks, custodians, education assistants and visitors, to join with people from all over British Columbia to read for twenty minutes.

Even better, find twenty minutes to read every day!
