Audiobooks the easy way

When it comes to listening to an audiobook, nothing is easier than a “Playaway.”  Simply plug your headphones in and press play. No downloading.  No syncing.  No other devices needed.

We have a large selection of titles to choose from, including assigned novels from your English and Humanities classes, with many more non-curricular titles for recreational “listening.”  Many Playaways come in a kit combining the audiobook with a print copy of the novel, allowing you to listen and read at the same time, if that is something that helps you. This can be especially useful for school assigned texts.

Banned Books Week

In the United States the American Library Association presents Banned Books Week, September 24 to 30. 

From the ALA: Banned Books Week, the annual celebration of the freedom to read, will be held the week of September 24th in 2017. For this year’s celebration, the coalition of organizations that sponsors Banned Books Week will emphasize the importance of the First Amendment, which guarantees our inherent right to read.

People in Canada and around the world stand with Americans who are celebrating and standing up for their right to read. As Canadians we can also celebrate our rights, and learn more about what we need to do to protect those rights.

International Day of Peace

From the United Nations: Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The theme for 2017 is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”Find out more:

We take requests.  We take your requests very seriously.  We want to help you find books that you want to read.  Let us know what you are looking for.

Non-fiction subject?  Sports? Computers? Rap? Fly-fishing or fashion or skateboarding or painters or the environment? Or any other  subject? Let us know.

Fiction?  How about sci-fi, horror, young adult, historical, romance, suspense, fantasy…? What kind of stories do you like? Let us know.

Library Team Meeting Wednesday at Lunch

There will be a Library Team Meeting on Wednesday at Lunch.  All students who plan to volunteer in the School Library this year must plan on attending. Bring your lunch and come down right after the bell.

If you are have volunteered in the School Library in previous years, if you are brand new this  year, or even if you are just thinking about it, please plan on being at this vital meeting.
