Come down to your School Library in the month of October as we celebrate all that is amazing and wonderful about libraries, especially School Libraries in the public education system.
Monday, October 25 is BC School Library Day and is also the date for the BCTF/BCTLA’s annual DEAR Challenge: Drop Everything and Read. Mark it on the calendar and spread the word.
Today you have been challenged by the BCTF and BCTLA to Drop Everything and Read! The DEAR Challenge is issued every year for BC School Library Day, in conjunction with Canadian Library Month and International School Library Month.
Every person in British Columbia, including every student and every teacher, is challenged to drop everything else and read a book. Read for pleasure. Read for entertainment. Read for knowledge. Read for escape. Read for experiencing other places, other times, other lives. Read for the joy of it.
There are so many reasons to read.

Today the BC Teacher-Librarians’ Association gathers for it’s annual conference, which this year takes place at our neighbouring school, Salish Secondary.

The DEAR Challenge has been issued by the BC Teacher-Librarians’ Association, to all the people of this province, to Drop Everything and Read. Join with people from all walks of life around BC to celebrate the value of reading. While most will stop at 11:oo for 20 Minutes of Silent Reading, stop whenever you can today for some SSR. At Lord Tweedsmuir we have an SSR period each day from 9:25 to 9:44. Be sure to take advantage of this valuable time to read something that you enjoy.

The Annual Conference of the British Columbia Teacher-Librarians’ Association took place in Burnaby on October 21. As usual, it was an excellent event. What else would you expect when some of the greatest minds of our province gather in one place for the day?

The BC Teacher Librarians Association (a division of the BCTF) has issued its 9th Annual DEAR Challenge: Drop Everything and Read! On Monday, October 26th, people all over British Columbia are going to stop working, put down the phones, turn off the screens, ignore the texts, and just read! Join in and show that you believe that literacy is vital. Find a good book, magazine or newspaper. Enjoy some sustained silent reading.
Join in with students from all over the district in reading, discussing and voting on the best novels of the year. Go to Surrey Teens Read to find out more. Come down to the school library as we have multiple copies of all this year’s nominated books!
Today is National School Library Day in Canada. Today we recognize the vital role of School Libraries in education. The Province of British Columbia has joined in, declaring that today is School Library Day with the following proclamation:
DEAR: Drop Everything and Read. The BCTLA and BCTF challenge everyone around the province of British Columbia to “Drop Everything and Read” on Monday, October 28.
At Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School we students and teachers read every day during SSR. On the 28th we are challenging everyone in the building, including administrators, clerks, custodians, education assistants and visitors, to join with people from all over British Columbia to read for twenty minutes.
