Yom Kippur

rhandyk

Yom Kippur, or the “Day of Atonement”, is the holiest day on the Jewish Calendar. For devout Jews in Canada and around the world, Yom Kippur is the most important Holiday, beyond Hanukkah or even the Passover. Many Jews will spend the entire day in fasting, praying and other observances.

In 2021 Yom Kippur begins at sundown on September 15, and ends at nightfall on September 16. (This is according to the Gregorian Calendar, while the Jewish Calendar is at year 5782.)

Concrete Rose

Surrey Teens Read has once again come up with an incredible list of titles for students to enjoy. This week we look at Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas.

Concrete Rose is a prequel, going back 17 years before the events of The Hate U Give, the debut novel of Thomas and an international sensation. This latest novel looks at the early life of Maverick Carter, who would become the father of Starr Carter, the protagonist of The Hate U Give.

Come down to the School Library to see Concrete Rose and the other nine nominated titles for this school year’s version of Surrey Teens Read.

Wear a mask. Wear it correctly.

If your mask is hanging below your nose, you are doing it wrong.

Too many students are walking the halls with masks hanging down too far. Sort it out!

And since we are on the topic, are you vaccinated?

Unless you have medical reasons why you shouldn’t get the shot, or aren’t eligible, why aren’t you vaccinated by now? Get to it.

Surrey Teens Read

Come down to the School Library to check out this year’s nominated titles from Surrey Teens Read. Once again there are 10 novels on the ballot and we have multiple copies of each title. There are books representing a variety of genres and there is something to appeal to everyone in high school, boys and girls, all ages and grades, from avid readers to casual readers.

Find out more by checking our Surrey Teens Read display in person. You can also go to the online home of STR, surreyteensread.weebly.com.

Mask Up

Buck the Library Duck has a message for you:

“If everyone who could get a Covid vaccine would get one, we would be on our way to getting through this mess. In the meantime, Covid is still enough of a problem that all of us, including the vaccinated, have to wear masks.”

So come down to the school library, enjoy all that we have to offer… just be sure to wear that mask.

Greetings from the School Library

Welcome back to another school year at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary. Here in the School Library we look forward to serving you for another year. We are here for all of you, staff and students, boys and girls, grade 8 to 12. Come down to visit us in person, and visit us online. Let us know how we can help support your learning, both in and out of the classroom.

The Jewish Calendar is a lunar calendar, therefor the dates of Rosh Hashanah and other Jewish holidays will vary according to the Gregorian Calendar (the standard calendar used in most of the world for politics, business and daily life.)  In 2021 Rosh Hashanah begins at Sundown on September 6 and ends at nightfall of September 8.
