All of these are titles which have been challenged. Somewhere in Canada in the past 30 years, individuals or groups have tried to have these books removed from schools, libraries and bookstores. The list of challenged authors includes Canadian Alice Munro, the 2013 Nobel Laureate for Literature.

Use District Databases to Find Articles from Magazines, Newspapers and More
Not everything can be linked to from Google. One of the big myths about online information is that everything is free and easy to find on the internet / world wide web. Many things are only available if you have proper access, including paid sites with usernames and passwords.
The good news is that as a student of Surrey Schools, you can use subscription databases that SD36 has paid for.
Find out how you can use a district online resource like Ebsco to find articles from thousands of different magazines, newspapers, journals and other sources. This includes fining full text articles, with all the pictures, maps, diagrams and other visuals.
Andrew Carnegie
On this day in 1835, Andrew Carnegie was born. He would go on to become the “richest man in the world.” A controversial figure, many criticize the manner in which he amassed his wealth. However, he is also one of the most prolific philanthropists in history, having given away more than $350 million in his lifetime. He is best known for the establishment of more than 2500 public libraries throughout the world. The millions he gave away in his lifetime continues to do good work right up to the present, accounting for billions of dollars of philanthropy.

It is National School Library Day, part of International School Library Month and Canadian Library Month. It is also the day for the annual DEAR Challenge: Drop Everything and Read.

Drop Everything and Read
The annual DEAR Challenge is coming up: Monday, October 27, 2014. The BCTLA and the BCTF challenge all British Columbians to Drop Everything and Read for 20 Minutes. Most of Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary already does this every day, so this should not be a problem!
The DEAR Challenge is just one aspect of National School Library Day, Canadian Library Month and International School Library Month.
